PATTERN 3 - CELLULAR INFILTRATES

The third pattern of lung pathology is the quintessential pattern clinicans associate with "Interstitial lung disease" or "ILD",  Here the alveolar walls are infiltrated by chronic inflammatory cells and patients typically manifest subacute clinical symptoms (weeks to months in evolution).  If fibrosis has not yet been generated (for example as a combined pattern of "cellular infiltrates" and "fibrosis", the process may be reversible.
